Jessica's Diary

(Just to let you know. This is only a minor story i'll be writing. It's a girl named Jessica, or, Jessy for short. She's basically writing aboiut her life. I'll be posting a new chapter every week.)

DAY 1

What am i thinking? I don't know how to swim, and yet, i joined the school Swim Team. I can't beleive this how stupid can you get? My friends Jace, and Charlie told me not to do it, but as i always do, i ignored. So how is it i got to be in this situation? Well let's see...

I woke up this morning with a fresh smile on my face. I felt a bit groggy but hey, who doesn't. I got dressed, and did my usual. Not expecting my friends to be waiting for me downstairs. I was so happy today because it was the day i was going to talk to Micheal. The school's 1# basketball player, i was going to... well tutor him. But i gues i had to put that on hold. Mom wanted me to baby sit my brother after school. I got to school and WHAM, there he was inside of homeroom sitting at my desk. Of course normally, i'd mind someone sitting inmy chair, but this is an exception.

"OH, MY, NUGGETS! He's in your chair. what are you gonna do?" Charlie kept asking. I was trying to think of what to say to him, while she was beside throwing a fit. Charlie had been my best friend sthe fourth grade. She practically knew me inside and out.

"Who, Jockstrap? You two are worried about the jockstrap? HAHA, that's great, oh, THAT... IS... great. Like he'll give you teh time of day. He was probably too lazy to go to his own seat, that's why he choose the nearest one." Jace complained. I'd known Jace for quite some time now, actually my whole life would be more specific. Our mom's were sorority sisters groing up in high school. So Jace and i were basically, linked together in spirit. Even still, he calls himself my older brother. He's only one year older than me.

"Oh shut up, Jace. She's trying to think of something to say... right Jessy? Oh of course you are." She said before i could answer.

"Oh of course she is, my apologies. Please allow me to suck upt him as well. Sir JockStrap, would you please.... kiss my butt? He's a total jerk." Jace snapped.

"Uh, i think you're mistaken. He's not a jerk, he's a hotty. And you.... you're just, what are you anyway?" Charlie teased.

"Ha! That's funny, maybe you should ask that same question to yourself. You know, when you're putting on makeup to hide you face." -Jace looked at me, with brown eyes. He almost looked tearful.-" Like i was saying, before Ms. Nosy interrupted. You can't say anything to him. It's too soon. He'll think you're a nerd. Not that you are or anythiong, it's just....." He paused, his lips pressing into a thin line. I could rememebr thinking "what the heck, you don't know him."

"Ooo, I know what you're thinking....." Cahrlie erupted.

"Shut up, Lakes." Jace snapped.

"Make me. Oh that's right, you can't."

They were close to flipping out when i stopped them. I wlaked over and asked Micheal to get out of my seat, nicely. He moved but kept eyeballing me from the other side of the room. The bell rang and Jace started his normal Big Brother act.

"I told you it was too soon. Now he's got you marked for dead! You should've just let him go. That way he wouldn't hate you... and you would'nt be so in love with him..." Jace bragged. I wasn't in love with him.

The lunch room was packed and noisy. We shuffled to get through the crowd to th eline. Once we made it, some guy wearing an aprina nd a hair net looked up at us from some paper he was writting on. His eyes were black with a hint of silver sliding around the edges. I drew closer to them.

"Hey Jet, how do?" Jace shouted giving the boy a fist pound. I barely brought myself to stop staring.

"Not much, just got back from swim practice. Princable got me again. Took some TP fromt he girls bathroom. Not my fault i had to go really bad, you know. And it's not like they'd give me any." Jet replied. I noticed from, the short sleeved shirt that Jet was sort of muscular. But not like a body-builder.

"Yeah, total snobs; cheerleaders. Anyway, can i have to burger and fries? Ooh, and a shake." Jace finished.

"No prob. Coming right up. And you....?" Jet asked turning to me. I snapped out of focus.

"I'm on the swim team too. Well, i'm not on it. But i want to join it son. Maybe sign up today even.... And...." I clamped my hand over my mouth. SHUT UP, i told myself.

"Cool. That's quite an idea you got there. Swimming great, releives the nerves. But i was kinda asking for your order. What do you want?" He said teasing. He smirked, allowing a neat row of dazzling teeth shine at me. I felt like a huge dork.

"Umm.. Same thing." I said in a small voice.

"Okay then. Here ya go. Burger, fries, and one meduim shake. Oh and you might want to grab a few napkins, these shakes are awesome, because i made them... haha. But they tend to get you a little messy... so." He warned. I smiled and go my meal. I walke over to our table, Jace sitting next to me.

"Why did you tell him you were going to join swim team? Jet's a really upfront guy. and now he'll expect you to actually join the team. Are you even listening to me?" Jace ranted.

"Oh back off, Marx. She's fine. She can't join the team, but she's intitles to say whatever she'd like." Charlie stated.

"You're right, you're right. Speaking of which, you should just go market yourself off on ebay, saying you're an urban calendar model. You know, just to spice things up. Heck i'd even buy you." Jace snickered. I hit him on the shoulder and giggled. But i realized what he was saying. Het didn't look like a guy that took things easily. I couldn't back out now.

"NO! I know what you're thinking, you can not join the swim team. Jessy, no. we're not letting you." Charlie and Jace yelled. I snapped out of my daze. And left the table regarding them happily. I walked into the hallway thionking of going to the restroom. When i found myself at the main office askign for the signup sheet to the swim team. they said no and i did it anyway. After i was done i turned aroudn and jumped. I saw Jet standing in the main office, leaning against the doorframe.

"Ouch, what a way to say Hello. Calm down. I was just here to see if you signed up yet. You know, i don't like being stood up. Makes my all untrusting." -Jet began to walk up to me-" But nevermind that, let's talk about the Swim team. You got a coach yet? A trainor?" He asked. Jet was staning right in front of me. Not ten inches away from me.

"I... no. I don't. I was going to go and ask coach Mika, if he could..." I began to walkj away to the door

"How about i do it? For free! I'll teach you." Jet said sliding infront of the door, blocking my exit. Not two seconds later when Jace and Charlie burst intot he room.

"ARE YOU INSANE? YOU CAN'T SWIM, JESSY!" They hollered. Well thanks for telling that to Jet.

"What?" I said poorly, stunned.

"You just joined the team. We heard you two talking when we passed the door. Okay, maybe... we were eavesdropping, but you can't swim." Charlie snapped. Jet looked dopwn at me and smiled.

"It's okay you guys. I'll teach her everything she needs to know. About swiming of course." He said not taking his gaze off of me. That when i almost fainted, inside.

SO now you know the story. I am freaking out here. I can't beleive i just did that. And on top of me not being able to tutor Micheal. I've got Jace and Charlie screaming down my back about being on the swim team. An jet wondering when we're goign to practice. Oh an dmy baby brother threw up on my twice. THANKS A LOT, LIFE!!! YOU'RE GREAT.

DAY 5

Dear Diary,

Charlie and Jace are screaming down my back about my first practice with Jet. They both think that I shouldn’t go for the same exact reason they were screaming about 5 days ago; I can’t swim. Of course Mom and Dad don’t help either with their constant nagging about the mysterious boy I’m spending all my time with. Of course Jet doesn’t seem to mind. He thinks its all pretty good, that parents are just parents and their just taking their precautions. But there’s a small problem to that; Jace and Charlie are not my parents.

First of all, I really didn’t partially agree to join the swim team. I mean, even though I made the suggestion and signed up and everything, that doesn’t mean it’s my fault. Second of all, Jace and Charlie should mind their own business. I mean I know they’re my best friends and all, but still, can I get some space. And third, I’ve got a really hot teacher who likes me. Now I don’t know about the rest of you teachers and the students, but I don’t know. I’d say that is a win/win situation for me.

But anyway, today in school we had a major accident in science class. While the chemistry teacher waged on and on and on about micro organisms, his little lab was exploding. And I’m not talking about your basic bubbly reaction, I mean full out fireworks, it’s a wonder that he ignored all this.

All of the kids were laughing in amazement at the fireworks, but it’s weird because while they were all laughing I’m feeling for the chem. Teacher. I mean, here he is half deaf, standing next to his science lab, which is exploding and he doesn’t even notice the tons of kids laughing at him. Beside me, Jace kept nudging me in the rib, telling me to look at Mr. Macintosh. As soon as I turned over, I gasped. His toupee had flipped off!

I stared at the massive heap lying on the floor. Just then a sudden outburst crashed through the door; and in walked the mother of all evils, Principal Hailey. This was the lady people were scared to eat lunch with.

“What do you think you’re doing” she screamed.

Mr. Macintosh blinked in confusion then snapped out of it, dazed and confused of Principal Hailey. While stammering and trying to find the right words to say his experiment kept popping and bubbling.

“I was simply trying to show the kids how to reverse the effects of anti-biotic.” Mr. Macintosh finally said.

Now it was principal Hailey’s turn to look confused.

“And why would you want to do that?” She screamed at the top of her lungs.

We all laughed at their actions for about an hour until the lunch bell rang. Getting out of my seat, a small voice at the back of my head told me “time to see Jet.” I sighed in self-pity, hoping he wouldn’t mention the swimming today. It took me all of 2 seconds to realize Id been standing their in his face. Jace called my name at least 8 times to snap me out of my day dreaming.

Outside in the hallway we weren’t really surprised to find Charlie waiting for us. She was leaning against Cash’s locker. Cash was Charlie’s new boyfriend who we all loved to hate. But of course we couldn’t tell Charlie that, she’d flip. That doesn’t constitute for him being a total jerk, a total dip wad, and last but not least, a total kiss up; but Charlie’s head over heel for him so we have to put up with him.

The school cafeteria was filled as usual. Crowed with yelling, body odor, and the occasional back hand slap. But I didn’t care for that too much. I made my way over to the lunch line, Jet was there as usual. Though he wasn’t there yesterday, I guess it wasn’t part of his shift. I got my usual lunch today, didn’t really feel like much of a change.

“Hey Jet. What’s up” Jace greeted the worker.

“Not much just got busted again for going into the girls’ bathroom… again. They really gotta out some toilet paper in the guys bathroom. I’m getting tired of getting beat with pom poms because I have to use the bathroom.” Jet said it as if he really meant it.

“Yeah I know, it’s like they take one look at a guy and they’re like ‘oh no, get out! I’m trying to go’.” Jace’s voice went up a few octaves on that last part. Jet abruptly cut Jace off saying:

“Yeah, I know. We do to. I mean I wouldn’t be in if I didn’t have to. And speaking of not being places,” Jet said, turning to face me, “we aren’t at swim practice at all.”

At that moment I seemed to get really shy, but I did manage, in a small voice, to make out the words, “Yeah, I know.” I felt like a total dork.

Jet leaned over the counter and propped himself up on his elbows. He leaned close enough that I could smell his deodorant. His black hair blowing around from the cool breeze coming from the window, gray eyes with the slight hint of black going around the edges, he grinned. Showing once more a pair of neatly aligned teeth.

“And what do you have to say for yourself” He asked.

I simply smiled and nodded, feeling like another dork on wheels, which I’m sure any girl would if you just kept smiling and nodding. I mean they might as well put me in a circus next to the bearded lady.

“Well…” Right, Jet still wanted an answer.

“How about this Saturday, I should be free” I finally managed to say.

“Saturday works for me.” God, that smile was going to be the death of me.

The rest of the day went by slow. I honestly don’t remember any of my other classes, though I’m pretty sure it was gym where I got this huge bruise on my leg. The bell finally rang for the end of the day; I picked up my books and raced out of Spanish class.

Charlie was hanging out with Cash today after school and Jace had Track meet so I was alone walking home. I wasn’t in any rush to get home so I took my time at my locker and walked out of school, trying to decide if I wanted to walk or take the bus.

I finally decided on walking home when I heard someone call my name. Slowly I turned my head and looked across the student parking lot. I heard my name again and followed the voice. It was Jet; he was leaning against a silver car and staring right at me.

“Hey, what’s up?” I said as I walked over to him.

“Wanted to know if you’d like a ride home”

“Actually, I just planned on walking. But sure, a ride would be great.” I started to open the door of the car he was leaning on when Jet cleared his throat and put his hand on my arm.

“This isn’t mine.” He said.

“Then what is?” I asked. Then followed his gaze to the shiny blue and black motorcycle parked crooked near the front gates.

“That’s what you drive?” I followed him over to the bike.

“Mhm, she’s a beauty, ain’t she? I call her Shian.” He told me running his hand across the bike.

“She is impressive, but I can’t ride this.”

“Why not?” He looked confused and offended.

“My dad would have a major fit if he saw me on this.” I told him honestly.

He sighed, but said he understood and still wanted to see me home. He took one longing look at Aryxia before walking towards the gates. I forgot to move. How is it that I forgot to move, and didn’t realize that until Jet stopped about 5 feet from me, turned around and yelled “Coming?”

Quickly I followed after him. We walked in complete silence for the first mile or so. I didn’t know what to say and didn’t want to sound stupid, but finally Jet found the words to say.

“How was your day?” He asked

“It was nothing new.” I replied

“That bad, huh?”

“Mhm”

We continued with very small talk like that until we were close to my house. Then Jet turned a corner (my house was the opposite way) and I’m not sure why, but I followed.

“Don’t mind if we make a detour, do you?” he looked at me with those eyes and I just nodded my head.

“You do mind? Do you have other plans?” He stopped and pointed over his shoulder.

“Oh no, no, no. I meant to say I didn’t mind. I’ve got nowhere else to be.” I scrambled to say.

“Good” Jet nodded his head once then led the way.

The park, that’s where his little detour ended, it was nice out and still quiet, the kids’ school didn’t let out for another hour. I was following behind Jet as he made his way through the playground, and settled on a little bench over looking the lake.

I sat next to him and watched as the ducks came to investigate whether or not we had any crumbs to throw today. Jet shrugged his shoulder and shook his head; it was like the ducks understood him as they came over to search near my feet.

“Why do I get the feeling that you don’t exactly like me?” Jet turned to face me.

I kept my eyes out on the calming waters, trying to figure out why on earth he’d think something like that.

“What makes you say that?”

“I don’t know. The way your acting I guess. It’s like you think we won’t get along or something, avoiding me it seems like.”

He was looking right at me. Ducks were still searching around our feet, and I felt my cheeks getting hotter with blush. I stared at the water, pretending he couldn’t actually see that.

“That’s not it, trust me.” I told him, I mean what was I supposed to tell him, the truth?

“How about we make a deal. We go out, on a date, and if you have fun we get to do it again. If you don’t, we don’t ever have to see each other again. Swim practice only if you want. Deal?”

Oh wow. How could this not work? I get a date with Jet, and for a second one all I have to do is say I had fun, which I’m so sure I will. And if by that very, very small chance I don’t have fun, I just say it and I’m out of Swim practice, like forever. Could this get any better?

I let very little of the smile I was bursting with show on my face. I looked into his eyes, trying to play it cool, and said.

“It’s a deal.” Just as simple as that. Gosh, I felt so cool.

Jet stared into my eyes for a second, as if he couldn’t believe I actually agreed, then stuck his hand out. It took me longer than it should have for me to grab his hand and shake on it.

“Good.” He smiled.

I think a part of me melted. Jet, freaking JET, asked me out! Freaking Jet smiled when I agreed to go out with him. Pinch me; I totally think I’m dreaming. Wait, diaries can’t pinch, I guess I’ll have to do it. Ouch! Well, I’m not dreaming, but I do think I’m getting another bruise.
